Financing

Finding the money to turn your idea into a successful business is a challenge almost everyone faces and it is normal that a business will require additional funding at different stages throughout its growth.

When you start out, it can be difficult to borrow funds from banks or financial institutions and Founders will often turn to family, friends and those that know them well enough to risk investing in them.

As the business gains momentum, the need for development and expansion funds arises, however, emerging sales and profitability may still not be enough to provide security for a loan and the business may have to seek investment from external investors.

Investors come in many types, each with their own preferences for the sectors they are interested in, the stage at which they will invest and the amount of equity in your business they require to make an investment. You may find that you will need to raise funds several times before the business is self-sufficient, however, this is not unusual and not a failure on the part of the business, it is a factor of development.

Even the most successful companies that become Unicorns are likely to have raised funds from the public by listing on a stock exchange through what is known as an Initial Public Offering (IPO). An IPO is a hallmark of a very successful company.

Whatever the stage and however little or much finance you require, it is absolutely essential that you are fully prepared to represent yourself and your company to banks, financial institutions and investors. ‘Idea to IPO’ will provide you with everything you need to know and how to present your idea, company or opportunity in the best possible light.
